Some residents at Ha-Mashamba outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo have expressed shock at reports that a non-government organization was given three-million rand by the National Lotteries’ Commission to build a sports centre in the village.
The Hangwani Mulaudzi Foundation, an NGO headed by former Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi, received the money to establish the sports centre at Ha-Mashamba-Mukondeni village in the Makhado Local Municipality.
Mulaudzi stepped down as the Hawks spokesperson on Monday citing personal reasons.
Residents feel the sports centre in the village is not worth R3-million, adding that corruption might have taken place.
Meanwhile, the National Lottery Commission says the Hangwani Mulaudzi Foundation went through the normal application process when it received the funds.
Mulaudzi could not be reached for comment.
Mulaudzi’s resignation
Hawks Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebaya has said that there is currently no criminal investigation against Mulaudzi.
Lebeya accepted Mulaudzi’s resignation yesterday following a complaint lodged by the Democratic Alliance to Police Minister Bheki Cele relating to the R3-million that Mulaudzi allegedly received from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) to establish a sports centre in Limpopo.
He says that these allegations are likely to affect Muladzi’s credibility negatively.
