Limpopo mine’s high productivity to create more jobs

The Stibium mining company says high productivity at its newly-opened gold and antimony mine in Gravelotte in Limpopo will see the creation of more job opportunities.

Management of the Hong Kong-based company is at the mine outside Phalaborwa to assess the operations that have just started.

Stibium has taken over the once liquidated Cons Murch Mine.

Group CEO Basil Mcilhagga says the mine is already processing and producing gold. “So this mine is the producer again, and it has been producing since we took over, so there is quite a lot of employment that we have already generated.”

He says the mine is operating seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

“We have been carrying some detailed exploration process, we have quite a lot of work to do,” says Mcilhagga.

Mcilhagga says mineworkers who lost their jobs during the liquidation stage will be given priority.

He says: “We have been working very closely with the local people here. We also have an obligation to employ those people who were retrenched during the liquidation phase.”

“If they have the requisite skills and the job opportunities are opening up here, we give them the first opportunity,” adds Mcilhagga.
