Limpopo govt under pressure to tackle Vuwani crisis

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Limpopo government has 14 working days to come up with a plan on how service delivery should be fast tracked in Vuwani.

This as the Vuwani community threatens to resume protests.

More than 30 schools were torched in the area when demarcation protests flared up in 2016.

The Pro-Makhado Task Team is representing various community structures that reject the Municipal Demarcation Board’s decision to incorporate some parts of Vuwani into the new Collins Chabane municipality, which includes Malamulele.

Task team spokesperson Nsovo Sambo says: “The meeting held on Saturday with provincial government led by the MEC resolved that they should engage the Minister, and make a proposal on how the issue should be dealt with in terms of the regulation of boundaries. We spoke about the services, and requested they invoke Section 87 of the Municipal Structures Act and issue a notice that provincial government would take over the function of the local municipality in the area.”
