The death toll in the collision which happened at Matoks on the N1 in Limpopo Thursday night has been revised from 14 to 11.
A taxi hit a donkey then swerved to oncoming traffic and collided with a truck and burst into flames.
Emergency personnel had to use jaws of life to remove some of the trapped bodies.
The truck was travelling from Johannesburg to the Beit Bridge border post.
One taxi passenger survived while all occupants of the truck were not injured.
A witness says: “That guy was trying to swerve because the donkey was in the middle of the road but he was overtaking and speeding at the same time. The maximum speed here is 60.”
