The South Africa Presidency has confirmed receipt of a message of greeting purportedly sent to President Cyril Ramaphosa by the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea ( DPRK).

Below is President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Freedom Day message:

The note comes amidst global speculation as to the well-being and health of the 36-year-old North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. The letter dated April 27th extends greetings to the people of South Africa on behalf of the government and people of the DPRK, wishing South Africa greater success in its efforts to promote national unity and achieve socio-economic development.

The letter, seen as a bid to dispel rumours that Kim was gravely ill, expressed the belief that the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would steadily grow stronger.

Speculation has been rife about Kim Jong Un’s health and while thought to be credible, the severity of his ailment cannot be confirmed. United States President Donald Trump asked if he knew more responded that he had a very good idea but couldn’t talk about it publicly while wishing the leader well.
