The Lesotho capital Maseru has seen the first joint major rally ahead of the June elections.

Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili’s Democratic Congress (DC) and Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing’s Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) held a joint gathering in Khubetsoana.

Both parties lost all Maseru Constituencies to opposition All Basotho Convention in the last 2015 elections.

Metsing says they lost in 2012 because they were divided.

Both the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) and the Democratic Congress (DC) broke away from the original Basutoland Congress Party.

In the last election in 2015 both lost the constituency that has 16,000 registered voters to the opposition All Basotho Convention which got 60% of the vote.

Out of 80 constituencies countrywide, DC will field 54 candidates and LCD will field 25 and one to the Popular Front for Democracy.

Four weeks remaining to go to election day on June 3 and polls will determine if the agreement will help the Mosisili and Metsing duo to stay in power.
