Lesotho’s Letseng Diamonds says the newly unearthed a 910 carat clear diamond which is about the size of two golf balls might be the fifth largest in the world.

Letseng Diamonds is owned by London based Gem diamonds Limited and the Lesotho government. Gem Diamonds Chief Executive Officer Clifford Elphick says Since Gem Diamonds acquired Letšeng in 2006, the mine has produced some of the world’s most remarkable diamonds, including the 603 carat Lesotho Promise.

However, he says this exceptional top quality diamond is the largest to be mined to date and highlights the unsurpassed quality of the Letšeng mine.

Experts say it is likely to sell for about 40 million US Dollars and boost the company that was forced to halt operations in Botswana last year.
