Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Western Cape Education Department says learners and staff at Primrose Park Primary in Manenberg are receiving counselling following the murder of a staff member.

A 61-year-old woman was shot and killed just after 7 AM on Friday in Kunene Street. She had been at the school for more than 20 years.

Police say the motive for the attack is not known at this stage.

A spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, Bronagh Hammond, says she was en route to school at the time of the shooting.

Hammond says, “ Our sincere condolences go out to the family, friends and the school community of Primrose Park Primary after the sad loss of one of their staff members this morning. The staff member was shot and killed on her way to the school this morning.”

“The WCED has arranged for counselling support for learners and staff. The motive of the shooting is unknown. The incident happened while travelling to school, and not within the school property which has been incorrectly reported,” She says.
