The longest serving Zulu monarch died last year from COVID-19 in Durban. King-elect Misuzulu kaZwelithini is accompanied by Traditional Prime Minister Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Queen Mother MaZungu.

Amazulu regiments and maidens dressed in traditional attire are also present.

Another service is taking place at the KwaKhethomthandayo Royal Palace in Nongoma and is being attended by church leaders and others. Mourners have hailed the late king as someone with a firm belief in his faith. This prayer service was organised by the queens of the late King.

The Reverand Samuel Mpungose speaks to the legacy of the late King at the KwaKhethomthandayo Royal Palace. “He was not just a King, but a person who worshipped the Lord in heaven, his faith was strong. He praised and subjected himself to the Almighty. That is why he is only King to have been on the throne for so many years. He strongly believed in prayer and read scriptures in the Bible. He prayed to the Almighty all the time and played piano praising the Lord in heaven.”

The memorial service at the KwaKhethomthandayo Royal Palace is currently underway:
