Large-group dynamic great challenge for land reform – Agri NW

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Agri North West (Agri NW) says the so-called large group dynamic that is prevalent in land restitution processes is to the detriment of land reform in general.
Speaking to SABC News Online in the run-up to the 1913 Natives Land Act centenary, Agri NW chairperson, Boeta du Toit said a lack of farming knowledge and infighting in communities that receive land I resulting in formerly productive agricultural land going to waste.
He also says that government policy of focussing on small-scale farming is not viable as small plots of land do not have the capacity to produce the amount of food that they are expected to.
According to Du Toit, land claimants that opted for financial compensation are much better off today and they could invest the money in bettering their quality of life.
