The City of Cape Town says the Langa Clinic remains closed until the decontamination process has been completed. This comes after an employee tested positive for COVID-19 at the clinic.

The clinic was still operating on Tuesday, even after a coronavirus case was confirmed.

The City says the Langa Clinic was closed after a risk assessment was conducted by Occupational Health.  Spokesperson Priya Reddy says the facility is being decontaminated and is closed until the process has been completed.

Reddy says users of the clinic have temporarily been referred to the Vanguard Community Health Centre in Bonteheuwel.

Meanwhile, South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) says some of its members, who came in close contact with another member who tested positive at the clinic, have been told to return to work.

It says all the staff at the clinic have to be tested and isolated until they receive their results. The Western Cape has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country with more than 3000 cases.
