South Africa lost agaisnt Botswana on Sunday.

Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup coach David Notoane says lack of experience let them down in the loss against Botswana in the quarter-finals.

South Africa will have to settle for a place in the plate section following a 5-4 loss on penalties to Botswana. Notoane is using an under-23 side to compete against senior national teams from the southern region to prepare the team for the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Notoane says they conceded two soft goals from set-pieces, “Sometimes yes the result is not what we want, the result is not what is expected of us. I think the lessons in terms of where we are as I indicated with this group of boys trying to prepare for Zimbabwe – will help us and I think that games like these are more important to prepare our boys going forward into senior competition. We played Lesotho by the way senior team in our preparation for Angola.”
