Sisulu slams inefficient intelligence for SA’s woes

Presidential hopeful Lindiwe Sisulu says a lack of efficiency within the country’s intelligence community has had dire consequences for the political stability of the country.

Some analysts have attributed violent protests and the burning and destruction of public property to the failure of the country’s crime intelligence to do its work.

Intelligence operatives have also been accused of being used in African National Congress (ANC) factional battles ahead of the leadership election congress in December.

Sisulu was speaking in an exclusive interview with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

“You do not have to recruit everybody you find.  I don’t know how many of those properly trained intelligence officers are.  Even in our economy we could have been able to anticipate that the economy is going to hit a problem and be able to prepare for that.  When the intelligence is not functioning you have all the problems that we have.”
