Mpumalanga health services still reeling from storm damage

Provision of health care services have been compromised due to four health facilities in Mpumalanga.  This after a devastating storm wreaked havoc two weeks ago.

Government is yet to repair the facilities fully.

The provincial Health Department says it’s still assessing the extent of the damage.

The aftermath of a devastating storm has left the roof of a clinic blown away, medical equipment damaged.

Government promised swift action. Gillion Mashego Mpumalanga Health MEC says the are hoping to fast track their actions to make sure the services are restored.  “A contractor has been appointed and will start with the work tomorrow. We want to make sure that the services are not hugely affected in all our health care facilities.”

Two weeks later, the clinic is yet to be fully repaired this is affecting the much needed provision of health care services.

Three other health facilities in the province are yet to be repaired after being hit by the storm.  The Health Department says it’s working on addressing the problem.

Spokesperson of the Mpumalanga Health department, Dumisani Malamule, says they are yet to know how much the damage is worth.  “We are in a process of doing a thorough assessment on the damage caused by the storm, that assessment will tell us as to how much is needed to do the repairs and how long it’s going to take doing the repairs.”

Officials have urged residents to exercise patience until the health facilities are fully repaired.
