Fifth suspect appears in court for disappearance of Joey & Anisha Van Niekerk

A fifth suspect has appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.  He was arrested after Joey and Anisha Van Niekerk disappeared at Mooinooi near Brits, in the North West.

He is being charged with rape, murder, and defeating the ends of justice. He will remain in police custody, until his next court appearance next month.

Joey and Anisha Van Niekerk went missing, last week Sunday.  They were allegedly on their way to Pretoria, when they were attacked by unknown assailants.

Four men, who have already appeared in court, were arrested for their disappearance.

The two women disappeared on December 10 after going to a funeral in Pretoria.  They never made it to Pretoria and their burnt car was found on December 16th in the Magaliesburg area.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mpeile Talane  says the suspects led them to the bodies of the two woman, “To this far we haven’t managed to find the bodies of the missing persons. We have opened six cases which are murder, kidnapping, robbery, rape, unlawful possession of firearms and defeating the ends of justice.”

Police say the more charges, have been added, due to on-going investigations.They declined to divulge more information, but stated that investigations are continuing.

All five suspects,will remain in police custody, until their next appearance in January.
