Allegations that Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba wanted a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) close to him to be awarded R11 million will now be subjected to an independent forensic investigation.
The African National Congress (ANC) claims Mashaba initiated funding to Field Band Foundation which is involved with children from broken families without the city’s approval.
Mashaba has been the chairperson of the organisation for 16 years. The Joburg Mayor says the investigation will once and for all show that the ANC’s allegations are just baseless.
“The mayor maintains that the allegations made by the ANC are absolutely baseless and it is great these allegations are tested by an independent forensic investigation. As we said before the city has nothing to hide in this matter,” says Mayoral spokesperson Luyanda Mfeka.
