KZN police confiscate over 200 illegal firearms

The police’s Safer Festive Season Operation has started to yield positive results in KwaZulu-Natal.

This as police recovers more than 200 illegal firearms in one week. Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Thulani Zwane says the operation was conducted in various areas such as Greytwon, Kranskop, KwaDukuza, Umhlali and Nsuze.

Zwane says the firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to check if they are linked to any crime.

“During the operation, the members managed to recover more than 225 firearms such as AK-47, R5, and 9mm pistol as well as homemade firearms. More than 240 suspects were arrested who were linked in possession of these illegal firearms such operations will continue in the province as we are approaching the festive season and we will make sure that we get rid of all these illegal firearms because most of these firearms are being used in various crimes,” says Zwane.
