Police in KwaZulu-Natal say the situation in Lindelani in KwaDukuza north of Durban is now calm. This follows a clash between the supporters of the African National Congress (ANC) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) on Sunday morning.

In a statement the ANC says five of its members were taken to hospital after IFP members attacked them during election campaign. However, the IFP says the ANC members provoked its members. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says officers have been deployed to the area and ANC has continued with its election campaign.

“The situation is monitored by the police now there are police from KwaDukuza area as well as other areas, they are at the area as we speaking. The situation is stable and they are continuing with their canvassing,” says Mbhele.
