The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has nominated Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as its preferred candidate for party president.

This means three provinces KwaZulu-Natal, the North West and the Free State have endorsed Dlamini-Zuma so far, while five others have backed deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa.

The KwaZulu-Natal ANC’s nominees for the other positions in the party’s Top Six are, Deputy President David Mabuza, National Chairperson Nathi Mthethwa, Secretary-General Ace Magashule, Deputy SG Jessie Duarte and Treasurer-General Nomvula Mokonyane.

IEC official Bontle Mpakanyane read out the results of the voting in KwaZulu-Natal for party president says Dlamini-Zuma is sitting at 433 branch nominations; the second is Cyril Ramaphosa at 193 branch nominations and then followed by Zweli Mkhize at six nominations from branches.

Meanwhile, the ANC says the success of its national elective congress will solely depend on the delegates’ commitment to forge unity and cohesion.

This came out at a media briefing on the outcomes of the party’s last NEC meeting in Johannesburg  on Monday afternoon.

The ANC will hold its hotly contested elective congress in a fortnight’s time with at least seven candidates vying for the party’s presidential post.
