KZN family reunited with missing daughter

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A family from Kranskop in KwaZulu-Natal is rejoicing following a long-awaited reunion with their ten-year-old child.

The little girl was abducted by a policewoman, who claimed she was her daughter who had disappeared during a flood in the Uthukela River in 2010.

DNA results disproved her claims. “God answered my prayers now that I’m back home with my family. While I was away I prayed for their safety and mine. God kept his promise and answered my prayers. I’m grateful,” said the  little girl.

SABC News first told this little girl’s story five months ago, when allegations of her abduction first surfaced. The suspect, a policewoman working in the Ntuzuma township in Durban claimed to be the girl’s biological mother.

Amid the search for the truth, the girl was taken to a place of safety hundreds of kilometres away. DNA results proved the policewoman was not the mother and the court ruled that she be returned home.

Relentless, the policewoman appealed the court’s decision. An application she later withdrew.  “When I went to fetch her I was very happy. I couldn’t believe that I’m finally taking her home. She also couldn’t believe it because she didn’t know we were coming to fetch her,” said the girl’s mother.

The family now plans to take legal action against the policewoman. Even though the little girl still needs psychological and emotional counselling, her family is happy that she is finally at home.
