KwaZulu-Natal department of Education MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane has expressed her sadness by the death of five teachers from Ladysmith who died when their taxi collided with Deputy Chairperson of Klipriver Taxi Association’s vehicle during an ambush earlier on Tuesday.

Department Spokesperson Sicelo Khuzwayo says they will assist the families and learners with counselling.

“It has been confirmed that five teachers from a local school in Ladysmith lost their lives on Tuesday in an accident after there was a shootout which then resulted to one of the car plunging into the car that was transporting teachers to school. So, the MEC for education in this province Honourable Dlungwane is very saddened and he is passing his condolences to the families of all the teachers who died in this crash. We sympathise with the families and learners as well,” says Khuzwayo.
