The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board has called on beach goers to be cautious when visiting beaches along the KwaZulu-Natal coast as some of its employees are on strike. This has led to the closure of several beaches in the province.

Employees downed tools a week ago demanding salary increases.

Sharks Board Operations Head, Mike Anderson-Reade says some beaches remain closed while others have been partially opened.

He says the Durban beaches have been re-opened to swimming and bathing.

“So, we just had this one day industrial action. We have managed to keep most of the beaches on the KZN coast open, though the other staff that are on strike. The Durban Beach Front, the central beaches are open from North beach through to Ushaka inclusive. They are all open and then along the coast most of the beaches are open.”

However, there are some smaller beaches that are not open.

“People will have access to protective bathing at the beaches spread out along through the entire coast.”
