ANCYL Provincial Secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo says judges must stay within their lane.

The ANCYL in KwaZulu-Natal has accused judges of trying to influence who will be elected at the ANC’s national conference starting this weekend at Nasrec in Johanesburg with recent court rulings.

This follows two judgments by the high court in Pretoria that went against President Jacob Zuma.

On Wednesday, the court gave President Zuma 30 days to establish a commission into state capture and ruled that the Chief Justice, not Zuma should appoint a judge to head the commission – reaffirming Public Protector recommendations.

Last week, the same court barred Zuma from appointing a new National Prosecuting Authority chief.

ANCYL Provincial Secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo has attacked the judgments.

“I don t think that President Zuma will be appointing somebody like me, who is not a legal fundi. He will appoint a judge, somebody they respect. We are saying the judiciary must come out of ANC politics. If you look at these late judgments they have a clear intention of trying to influence the outcome of the national conference. We are very clear it is not going to happen, we are not going to be influence by some judges sitting somewhere with deep hatred for Radical Economic Transformation, these judges must stay within their lane and they must simply apply the law.”
