Three by-elections are set to take place at wards previously won by the African National Congress (ANC) at three municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal next month.

The ANC, Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) will contest three wards at Umdoni municipality’s ward 16, Mkhambathini’s ward 3 and ward 2 at Jozini municipality respectively.

The wards were left vacant after the death of all three councilors, the Independent Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) said on Tuesday.

Mkhambathini Municipality’s by-election will see an independent candidate contesting alongside other political party candidates.

The National Peoples Ambassadors (NPA), the United Democratic Movement (UDM) and another independent candidate will join other party party candidates and go head-to-head at Jozini Municipality’s ward 2.
