The Department of Co-operate Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal says disaster management teams are on standby.

This after the South African Weather Services cautioned KZN residents to brace themselves for heavy rainfalls in various parts of the province.

Spokesperson Musawakhe Mayisela says: “We would like to assure members of the public that our disaster management teams are ready to respond to whatever they are required to do so in every corner of KZN. We are therefore urging our people here especially those who are in low lying areas to be extra careful.”

“We are also urging our people to suspend their journeys until the weather is better.”

Forecaster Wiseman Dlamini says a severe thunderstorm accompanied by floods is expected across the province.

Dlamini says there is a possibility of flowing streams that comes with localised flooding and urged people who are residing in low lying areas to remain on alert.
