Community members of KwaMashudu at Manguzi at the border of Mozambique and South Africa have threatened to boycott Wednesday’s election saying the government has failed to provide them with services.

They say they have not had any services since they voted in 1994 – instead they see the increasing number of criminal incidents.

Thobile Makhanya a resident in the area says the community is suffering.

“They are many things that are happening in other areas but there KwaMShudu we don’ get anything, our sin is that we are at the border of the country. We did not choose for ourselves to live here and it is not us who say must come here, all areas have crime but do we suffer for things we did not do. There is no electricity here and those who have electricity, they connected it illegally.”

Joseph Fakude another resident of the area says nothing has changed since 1994.

“I don’t think I will vote, since 1994 until now I have not seen any change. We live here and support ourselves by selling beer called Injemane. Voting does bring any change”.
