Residents of KwaMadiba near Xolobeni in Bizana in the Eastern Cape have agreed to vote following talks; this after they initially boycotted the election. The villagers say the Mbizana Municipality have been neglecting them for years.

Residents are demanding improved infrastructure, electricity in the village, proper roads and sanitation. Their vote became their protest tool.

Community leader, Malizo Ncamana, says that there seems to be progress regarding their demands.

“What has changed is the fact that there seems to be progress in terms of their demands; the mayor is coming on the 15th and they want him to come with plans to resolve their problems on the 15th.”

IEC official, Sibusiso Ndzama, says that they reached an agreement with the community.

“An agreement with the community has been reached. They were demanding roads, houses and electricity. The Mayor is going to meet with them on the 15 to address their issues.”
