Visitors’ safety in the Kruger National Park has come under the spotlight following the killing of SANparks Environmental Crime Investigative Senior Manager, Kobus de Wet.

It is alleged that a hippo trampled to death De Wet who was camping in the Kruger National Park over the weekend. The incident happened on the border with Mozambique.

Visitors to the park have described the incident as unfortunate. Most say they are satisfied with the safety measures in the park.

“I am from Netherlands, the safety is very good, there are fences in every chalet, the animals cannot go to the park, there are safety guards,”

Another says, “I am not pretty concerned about safety as long as you in the car you are alright, there are rangers that are very visible.”

“And when you see animals just keep your windows closed. If you don’t follow the rules, you are in danger.”
