A Kruger National Park ranger has died following a shoot-out with poachers in the park. Spokesperson for the South African National Parks, Ike Phaahla says the deceased ranger was part of a team that was tracking a group of poachers.

They had been spotted in the eastern part of the park near the Mozambican border. Phaahla says so far no arrests have been made.

“A doctor was dispatched and was flown to the scene, stabilised the injured ranger, unfortunately on their way to Medic clinic in Nelspruit, he passed away.  On behalf of Sanparks, the CEO and the board, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the ranger’s family, the colleagues and associates.”
