‘Kotane, Mark’s legacy must be preserved’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Tributes have been paid to two struggle icons at a memorial service in Johannesburg on Friday. The remains of Moses Kotane and John Beaver Marks were finally repatriated from Russia to South Africa last Sunday.

Dignitaries in attendance have called for the legacy of the liberation giants to be preserved. They will both be reburied this month.
The two – Kotane and Marks – were staunch trade unionists, died as heroes while on foreign soil. They rallied support against apartheid South Africa.

Others say this must be the benchmark for resolving the divisions in the trade union movement and the Tripartite Alliance.

While the homecoming begins a new chapter, government says more awareness should be raised about the work the two men did in service of their country.

Kotane will be buried on the 14 march in Pela in the North West and Marks on the 22nd of Marc
