Knysna residents pledge support to new mayor

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Residents of Knysna in the Southern Cape say they have no interest in the DA’s factional battles.

They have banded together in a show of support for their new DA mayor, Mark Willemse.

He was elected last week after the ANC brought a motion of no confidence against former DA mayor, Eleanore Bouw Spies.

The residents say they are all in support of the new mayor of the town, Willemse and they support him 100%. The residents say Willemse will make a difference.

DA Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela has called on Willemse to either resign or face strong action.

He says Willemse breached the party’s constitution by siding with the ANC in a vote to oust Bouw-Spies.

Knysna Ratepayers Association Chairperson, Christopher Gould says,” I think this is more about faction fighting within the DA than and it is about the ego of the DA party’s head in the Western Cape. He can accept this; he sees this as a feat for the horses that he was backing in this race. He simply needs to accept facts and look at what’s happens and step back. We are interested in what’s best for knysna not what’s best for the DA.”
