An internal disciplinary process will be initiated against an African National Congress (ANC) ward councillor in the Matlosana Local Municipality in Klerksdorp. This comes after the councillor was officially charged with two counts of statutory rape.
The two cases were opened against him following the circulation of a video on social media showing the man sexually assaulting a young boy.
The parents of two 15-year-old boys have since come forward to open cases.
A case of crimen injuria is also being investigated against the same councillor, who has since been suspended by the ANC. He is expected to appear in court soon.
ANC provincial spokesperson, Tumelo Maruping says, “We have taken a decision that now that he’s suspended and formally charged, we are going to start with that process of implementing the resolution of step aside…”
