Kings, NMBD agency partnership at loggerheads

The partnership between rugby’s Isuzu Southern Kings and the Nelson Mandela Bay Development Agency is on the verge of collapse.

The Kings have moved their remaining Pro 14 home matches from Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth to the Nelson Mandela University after new contract negotiations with the agency didn’t yield any results.

The contract between the Kings and the Nelson Mandela Bay Development (NMBD) ended in August.

A source close to the team says the agency is offering them much less than locally-based soccer team Chippa United is getting.

“We are currently negotiating with all our tenants at the stadium. There is nothing new. It happens every year but as I have said I will not divulge negotiations on radio that is in bad faith. Both teams are engaged as we speak on the nitty gritty of the agreement. So when that is ready, an announcement will be made by both sides,” says Nelson Mandela Bay development Agency’s  Luvuyo Bangazi.
