King Zwelithini teaches on climate change

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Zulu Monarch, King Goodwill Zwelithini lambasted those he called savages of the environment. The King was speaking at a tree planting ceremony in Nongoma. The event was linked to the annual reed dance. The dance is a symbol of purity. At least 30 000 maidens presented their reeds to the King. This year the event incorporated environmental concerns. For every reed laid, a tree was planted. This was in anticipation of the COP17 climate change meeting taking place in the province later this year.

The increasing temperatures across the country is a sign that no one is immune to the effects of global warming

“People must find alternative ways to hunt and I urge them to live environmentally friendly lifestyles,” said King Zwelithini President Jacob Zuma praised the King for the initiative and reiterated government’s committment to combatting the effects of climate change. The King says the increasing temperatures across the country is a sign that no one is immune to the effects of global warming. He urged his subjects to care for the environment.
