The Sol Plaatje Municipality has missed its deadline to restore water on Sunday.

Day five without water has left many residents of Kimberley fuming.  The city has been without water since Friday, due to what the Sol Plaatje Municipality calls a major water upgrade.

An earlier deadline of Sunday to restore water to the city was missed. Municipal Spokesperson Sello Matsie has asked residents to continue to be patient and again apologised, citing a new technical hiccup.

“We had one place which was a bit problematic where there was time overrun and we wouldn’t want to enter into a debate to say who was right who was wrong. The truth is that we did have a problem in one specific area which water was flooding, the working area, and that was resolved though it led to bit of a delay and we’d like to apologise for that.”

The municipality says the delay was caused by work at the site where the new mental hospital is being constructed. It’s called on residents to be patient – for the water to flow completely into the system.
