The Khoisan leaders in the Eastern Cape have welcomed the theatre production on the life of their icon Sarah Baartman.

The production known as ‘Return of the Moon- a glimpse of Sarah Baartman’, written by Robert Lourens, starts on Wednesday until Saturday at the Port Elizabeth Opera House.

It’s about the prejudice of Europe. Khoisan activist and member of the Provincial Legislature, Christian Martin, regards this as an exciting moment in the history of the indigenous community.

“I also told the Khoisan movement- the Dawid Stuurman movement, that we need to support this drama. Sometimes we complained the other day, we walked to the SABC to complain there is not enough viewing of the Khoisan activities, and here we have one. So we have to support when people give it to us, we need to support and attend these events and this is one of them.”

A Khoisan leader in the Nelson Mandela Bay, Crawford Fraiser, also supported the production.

“My brother, I welcome any production with open arms. I will welcome any production that reveals the truth. Remember the truth will set us free.”
