“Khoi nation cannot be excluded from land debate”

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) president Luthando Mbinda says the land issue will not be resolved as long as it fails to take the plight of the Khoi nation into account.

Mbinda was speaking during a land expropriation without compensation seminar hosted by Unisa in Pretoria on Monday.

Role players in the debate called for the amendment of Section 25 and 36 of the Land Act.

“It is very important that any matter of the land we include the Khoisan. They are part of us, they’ve always been around and they’re indigenous,” says Mbinda.

Congress of the People leader Mosiua Lekota said it was important for government to expedite the resolution of the land question.

Black First Land First (BLF) advocated that every piece of land stolen from blacks during apartheid be returned to its rightful owners.

BLF leader Andile Mxitama believes there’s no negotiation around the return of the land.

The |Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) which is vocal on the issue of land says speeding up the process of land expropriation without compensation will help restore the dignity of black South Africans.

Most black communities lost their land under apartheid.

EFF Gauteng Chairperson Mandisa Mashego says they will continue with their programme to seize land without fear of law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, there were some scenes of unruly behaviour when audience members booed at African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee member Ronald Lamola when he tried to speak.

The Democratic Alliance Head of Policy, Gwen Ngwenya says expropriation of land without compensation is not necessarily in dispute.

The DA says this line of argumentation is misleading.
