The Khoi have been camping outside the Union Buildings since November 2018, demanding to be recognized as the first indigenous nation in the country.

Less than 24hours before the polls open for the 2019 general elections, the Khoi national leadership says it will not be voting.

Members of the Khoisan community have been camping outside the Union Buildings in Pretoria since 30 November. They are demanding that government address their concerns.

Among others, they want the Khoisan people to be recognised as the first indigenous nation in South Africa and their language – Kwadi–Khoe – to be listed as of one of the country’s official languages.

Khoisan group leader, Chief Khoisan SA, is urging South Africans to stand in solidarity with them and vote the ANC government out of office.

He says the group lost confidence in the government when the Khoisan Traditional Leadership Bill was passed without the community’s input.

Chief Khoisan SA says government has failed to fulfill its promise of a better life for all.
