The chairperson of Parliament’s Home Affairs inquiry into the naturalisation of the Gupta family, Hlomani Chauke, says it has been brought to his attention that a witness in this matter – Ashu Chawla – is out of the country.
The committee is on its second phase of the inquiry to clear up some questions it still has.
Chawla is the former Chief Operating Officer of Sahara computers and is also a key witness in the inquiry.
His lawyers said that Chawla is currently in India.
All correspondence and communication with him is via his lawyer.
“We know Chawla is very central to activities of facilitation in the New Delhi office is our most key witness.”
