South African tennis star, Kevin Anderson has captured his seventh career ATP title.
Anderson defeated 20-year-old American Jenson Brooksby in straight sets to win the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island.
It has been a tough year for Anderson, but the 35-year-old, who is battling back from injuries, bounced back in impressive fashion to beat Brooksby 7-6(8), 6-4 in a match that lasted two hours and 11 minutes.
This is the former World Number five’s first tour-level triumph since Pune in 2019 and Anderson is the first South African to triumph in Newport since Neville Godwin in 2001.
Anderson has jumped 39 spots to 74th in this week’s ATP rankings following the victory in Rhode Island.
This one is truly special 🏆 Winning my 7th title at the @halloffameopen means so much, being with my family and in such a historic place for tennis, it’s just an incredible feeling. Thank you @TennisHalloFame for having me and everyone in Newport and beyond for your support. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/TlFNF5N6li
