Kenyans to hold prayer before presidential elections

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Kenyans will have a day of prayer and reflection on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s elections.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition candidate Raila Odinga wrapped up their campaigns on Saturday.

Kenya’s new electoral laws require a 48 hour silence ahead of the polls. The country’s main places of worship will hold peace prayers.

Several people have travelled upcountry from the main cities to vote, while others are fleeing for fear of post-election violence.

Opinion polls have put Kenyatta and Odinga neck and neck.

As Tuesday approaches, all eyes will now be on the electoral Commission and its level of preparedness.

More than 5 000 observers have been accredited for this year’s poll – underscoring the importance of this election not just for Kenya but the rest of the world.
