Kenyans slate Trump’s controversial statement

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Kenyans have criticised United States President Donald Trump following reports that he described African countries in a derogatory manner last week.

The citizens spoke even as the Kenyan government remained tight-lipped over the remarks that have outraged several African capitals including the African Union.

A week since Trump’s alleged remarks Kenyans are still in disbelief.

While some saw the reference as racist, others think it is probably out of ignorance.

Several African countries including Nigeria, Botswana, Senegal, South Africa, Haiti, and Ghana have all summoned American diplomats to explain what Trump meant by his supposed comment.

East African nations have, however, kept off the issue altogether.

Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama has his roots in Kenya. Trump has previously questioned Obama’s birth certificate indicating that he was born in Kenya and therefore, not eligible to be US President.
