Steve Kekana passed away on Thursday at the age of 62 due to COVID-19 complications.

Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha has described legendary musician Dr Steve Kekana as a great entertainer and selfless person.

Delivering the eulogy at the Provincial Official Funeral on Thursday morning, Mathabatha said Kekana was a role model to many people. Kekana has been laid to rest at Moletlane village, Zebediela near Lebowakgomo.

He died due to COVID-19 complications last week. He was aged 63. Mathabatha says Kekana was a great ambassador for the country.

“As Limpopo, we have a reason to feel proud to produce such an entertainer Steve Kekana. He has lived the life of purpose, the life the made difference to the lives of many people  – we have lost a great entertainer and a great ambassador of our country indeed – a great reservoir of entertainment and knowledge and wisdom has been taken away from us. We have lost an arsenal of history, the great baobab has fallen.”

Meanwhile, author Sydney Maluleke, who wrote a book about the life of Steve Kekana, says the late legendary musician had always wanted a book about his life to be published.

“He would say to me, Sydney if there’s a legacy I want to leave for my children, let it be in the form of a book not money because I know money they can chew it. Indeed he would press me all the time, let’s finish the book and we managed to complete it in 2019. Steve himself was a visionary that is why he wanted a book to be written about him.”
