Reading Time: < 1 minute

Japan’s Kei Nishikori beat Matthias Bachinger of Gemany in straight sets to advance to the second round of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle in Germany.

The seven seeded Nishikori was too good for Bachinger, beating the German 6-3 and 7-6 in their first round tie.

It was Nishikori’s first outing of the season on grass, and the former two time semi-finalist in Halle was tested.

Also through to the second round is Robin Haase of the Netherlands.

Haase saw off Joao Sousa of Portugal, but he had to come from a set down in a difficult encounter.

Haase eventually winning out 4-6 7-5 6-4, he’ll face Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut.

The fourth seed in the tournament had less of a test on his hands.

Agut beat Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff, 6-4 and 6-1.
