Karuru sees hope in new coach as AmaZulu scrap for points

AmaZulu FC forward Ovidy Karuru is optimistic about their start to life under new coach Jozef Vukušič, despite losing their first match under the Slovak this week.

Usuthu fell to a 2-0 home loss to Absa Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs, the first game since Cavin Johnson departed the club. Now they are looking to find some points and move off the bottom of the table.

The Durbanites are away at SuperSport United on Saturday and Karuru believes they can turn it around in Tshwane.

AmaZulu FC have now lost four of their first six matches in 2019/20, with two draws from the remaining two games.

That poor start has left them rooted to the bottom of the table, with Maritzburg United the only other team with a similar record, although the Team of Choice do have a game in hand over their KwaZulu-Natal compatriots. Karuru, though, insists that there is still hope to turn the tables.

Karuru also discussed new coach Vukušič and his coaching patterns so far. He says the former Polokwane City boss, a man that lead Rise and Shine to a record high finish of fifth place last season, was acclimatising well, adding that the players were quickly adjusting to his methods.

After having a few days to now work with the squad – eight to be precise – Vukušič says he was happy with the players at his disposal.

He admitted that even if he was unhappy, the situation is what it is and they have to work hard to quickly turn the tables. – Report by Thahir Asmal
