Kaizer Chiefs Coach Arthur Zwane says his team will be looking to finish second on the log at the end of the DSTV Premiership season. This will propel Amakhosi to qualify for the prestigious CAF Champions league next season.

Chiefs will clash with Golden Arrows in the league match at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kaizer Chiefs have resigned themselves to finishing second on the log after Mamelodi Sundowns have tightened their grip on top of the DSTV Premiership log.

Amakhosi are in fifth position on the log with 28 points after 19 matches, four points behind second-placed SuperSport United.

“I think there are about 4, 5 or 6 teams that stand a good chance of finishing second you can see Sundowns are home and dry so we stand a good chance of fighting for the second spot, and we will take it from there going forward,” says Zwane.

Amakhosi took part in the CAF Champions league two years and went all the way to reach the final, but unfortunately lost 3-NIL to Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the final. Zwane would relish the opportunity to return to the Champions League.

“One thing for sure a team of Kaizer Chiefs calibre should be competing in the champions league year in and year out that’s the target at the moment and it will be very key for us as a club for the players the fans and everyone that is associated with the club,” Zwane explains.

Chiefs will host Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane on Sunday at 3 pm.

Amakhosi beat Arrows 2-0 in Durban in the first round. Zwane is anticipating a difficult match on Sunday.

“They don’t come easy they are all tough we are playing at home against arrows you know in terms of quality they always make it difficult for any team we are looking forward to the game hoping to grab maximum points,” Zwane reiterates.

Amakhosi have been drawn against third-tier side Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup last 16 round.  Zwane says it’s going to be a tricky match.

“It looks like it’s favourable for the big teams but when you play in the lower division, they always go out there and give their best and they don’t make it easy for you and we not going to get it on a silver platter we have to go out there and make sure that we go to the next round,” says Zwane.

New striker Christian Saile has made an immediate impact since making his debut a few weeks ago. He has already scored a goal and created two goals. Zwane says he is a quality player.

“I would say knowing his qualities as an individual he has got very rare qualities, he has added value. He has played three games if I am not mistaken, he gave us something to think about he is definitely one player that I think is going to add firepower that we were lacking at some point and create that stiff competition,” Zwane added.

Eric Mathoho, Khama Billliat, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Cole Alexander and Dillon Solomons will be out injured.
