Junior constable arrested for possession of prohibited firearm

A Cape Town Metro Police officer has been arrested along with two other suspects for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Metro Police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons, says the 26- year-old junior constable was off duty at the time of the arrest. “The Metro Police Department confirms the arrest of a junior constable by the South African Police Service in Pelican Heights. Information at this stage is that the 26-year-old who was off-duty at the time, was one of three arrests linked to a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The City has a strict code of conduct for staff, with zero tolerance for illegal activities or impropriety. The notice of suspension will be served on the officer once she is released from detention.”
