Judge to be appointed to conclude Cradock Four investigation: Lamola

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Justice Minister Ronald Lamola says his department will be appointing a judge that is set to conclude investigations into the murders of the Cradock Four and many other anti-apartheid activists who lost their lives at the hands of apartheid state security agencies.

Lamola took part in the memorial lecture of Fort Calata in Cradock in the Eastern Cape. This year marks the 36th anniversary since the death of the Cradock Four. The families of the struggle stalwarts are still seeking justice.

The department says the NPA has appointed 34 investigators and 23 prosecutors to handle the cases. Minister Lamola says he wants those responsible to face prosecution.

“And I think the families do deserve reality for the truth to come out and it is for that reason that we have agreed with the judgment that we do need to appoint a judge to conclude these matters and hold everyone accountable on why justice and prosecution have been delayed, the work that should have been done long ago by the National Prosecuting Authority,” Minister Lamola explains.
