Ahead of the African National Congress’ (ANC) Elective conference which starts this weekend – media representative – Sanef – is reminding journalists to uphold the highest standards of ethics as prescribed in the Press Code and report without fear or favour.

Sanef says it notes that one of the reporters of the Tiso Blackstar Group – whose publications includes the Sunday Times, Sowetan and Business Day – did not declare an apparent conflict of interest in the coverage of a story linked to the Democratic Alliance (ANC).

Sanef’s Mahlatse Mahlase says journalists must always be guided by the Press Code.

“There were members who felt that it is important to reaffirm again through the industry that we do have a bible in the Press Code and it is important to continue to actually follow the Press Code to ensure fair, balanced reporting which has multiple of voices and for journalists to remember that this is expected of them in any event that they cover.”
