South African Football Association president, Danny Jordaan, will be seeking re-election at SAFA’s elective congress in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Jordaan has been pitted against former referee and the Premier Soccer League’s general manager, Andile “Ace” Ncobo.
Ncobo succeeded in forcing the cancellation of the SAFA elective congress in March.
SAFA had initially brought forward the elections of their new executive council, but it never took place.
Ncobo at the time asked for the intervention of FIFA, when it was discovered that SAFA had violated their own statutes in organising the elections of the new executive committee.
More candidates showed their willingness to stand for the presidency, but they were found to be ineligible to contest the elections.
Most notably, former SAFA vice-president Mwelo Nonkonyana and former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe, because they were not active members within SAFA structures.
Lucas Radebe says:”I think South African football needs another chapter in order for success to come back again. I think we need new ideas and new people that will take it forward. When they asked if I was contesting I raised my hand but obviously there are rules and regulations.”
Ncobo, who has been a big critique of SAFA in recent months, stood his ground to challenge the powerful Jordaan, who is also the former chief executive of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Jordaan, who was first elected in 2013, is believed to enjoy massive support from 48 of the 52 SAFA regions.

Meanwhile, 39 candidates, including former national coach Shakes Mashaba and former Bafana Bafana striker Philemon Masinga, will contest for the ten positions in the national council.
Three SAFA vice-presidents will also be elected tomorrow, one of which should be a woman.
Current executive members Nomsa Mahlangu and Ria Ledwaba are believed to be the two front runners.
The chairperson of the league will automatically become the fourth vice-president of SAFA.
The congress will also elect the provincial chairpersons for the nine SAFA provinces.
